Built to Bruce Roberts plans by professional boat builder from 1987 and launched in 2006, with certificated milled Grade 43A British steel including deck structure and all associated steel parts.
The hull was grit blasted inside and out, to white metal grade 3 (top spec) and epoxy coated (Hempels Hempadur) with other two part coatings to finish.
The interior was fully insulated from new by a contracted installer using urea formaldehyde, a fire retardant foam insulation.
There are watertight bulkheads installed both fore and aft of the saloon and from the aft cabin to the saloon passageway.

"Cora Jean" was built to Bruce Roberts Spray Issue No 420 A Plan, developed from Joshua Slocum's yawl "Spray, which was the first yacht to sail solo around the world. Slocum's book has never been out of publication and is reprinted every year with all Spray's line drawings and an evaluation by naval architects of her design.
"Cora Jean" like the other Sprays, has a perfectly balanced waterline so she nearly always sails herself and does not need constant attention at the helm. She offers good speed in all winds, very low heeling angle, huge deck space and big interior space. "Cora Jean" being built of steel, is strong and I fitted her with a large engine.
The design has varying keel options and I opted to draw the keel down further and again, in regard to the fore foot, to lower the centre of gravity to reduce leeway. This was done after talking to owners and constructors of Sprays. I have kept the the bought plans and have drawn the deepened keel on them. As a result of this and a larger rudder, i believe "Cora Jean" sails better than her stablemates. Her deep draught is still only 5'10", still not excessive. The ballast is of lead.
There are many thousands of Sprays around the world, both factory and home completed using different materials. Many circumnavigations have been documented and various books written. There are loads of owner's adventures on YouTube.
