JS Shimakaze visits Southampton docks

We were surprised to see the Japanese warship in Southampton docks whilst moving the boats into the Southampton International Boatshow. She visited for four days at the city’s port. JS Shimakaze, a guided missile destroyer converted into a training vessel, arrived in Southampton last Thursday. The grey-framed ship, first commissioned in 1988, sailed up Southampton Water and docked near the QEII Cruise Terminal. It was quite a sight and a very long way from home – some 12,783 nm from home!!!
