This year the RNLI marks 200 years of lifesaving at sea. 200 years is an amazing milestone but everything that has been achieved has only been possible thanks to ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Since the RNLI was formed in 1824, volunteers have given up their time and formed crews and fundraised for the equipment and lifeboats to save over 146,000 lives in the UK – that equates to an average of 2 every day.
