Sailing season is back! Over the past 2 years, like everything, boat races have been majorly disrupted. However, they are back on track for 2022! So you don’t miss another one, these are the events happening across the South Coast during 2022.

Upcoming Boat Races
Vice Admiral’s Cup 2022
The next one coming up in May is the Vice Admiral’s Cup 2022, which is taking place between the 20th-22nd. This Solent-based inshore regatta will have up to four races per day across two courses. You’ll be in for three days of intense racing with the Royal Ocean Racing Club.
Race the Island Race 2022
Following that, you’ve got the annual Round the Island Race 2022 on June 25th! Organised by the Island Sailing Club, this is a one-day yacht race attracts over 1,400 boats to sail around the Isle of Wight which makes it one of the largest boat races in the world. Competitors travel from all over the UK and even from part of Europe and the USA for this race!
People coming to spectate and supports the sailors can find many viewing points across the Isle of Wight and the mainland. It is a great opportunity to watch new and avid sailors race against each other with almost 200 prizes to be awarded.
Cowes Classics Week 2022
You don’t have much time between races before Cowes Classics Week 2022 starts! It will take place between June 25th-July 1st. This week is all about racing for the traditional yachts with the opportunity for a lovely social event ashore. These races are organised by The Royal London Yacht Club which includes tea and cake at RLYC, daily prizes, a gala dinner and an awards ceremony to celebrate sailing once again!
British Classic Yacht Club Regatta
2022 marks the British Classic Yacht Regattas 20th anniversary! Organised by the British Classic Yacht Club, the week of races will take place July 16th-23rd. The regatta is an opportunity for enthusiasts to enjoy the races with fellow sailors from across the UK as well as Europe and even Australia and New Zealand.
Taittinger Royal Solent Yacht Club Regatta
The Taittinger Royal Solent Yacht Club Regatta is taking place from July 22nd-24th. These races will be their fourteenth year so why not take part with the celebrations with other sailing enthusiasts. Also, on the Saturday night there will be live music, dancing and fireworks!
Cowes Week
Next up is the return of Cowes Week 2022! Whether you’re going to join or support the 800 boats and 8,500 competitors, there are loads of things to see and do. Soak up the festival atmosphere from July 30th-August 6th.
SailGP Plymouth 2022
SailGP is hosting the Great Britain Sail Grand Prix in Plymouth for the second year running this July. Taking place July 30th-31st, the races will be an exciting spectacle inviting around 27,500 visitors to support the sailors.
Falmouth Week
Falmouth Week will take place this August between the 5th-14th! Offering 10 days of entertainment with 7 days’ worth of sailing races for Falmouth Sailing Week. The week will start with a race briefing, followed by a race each day with daily prizes. Come and enjoy the sun and fun with the family.
Fowey Royal Regatta
The Fowey Royal Regatta attracts thousands of visitors with many travelling annually to see one of the UK’s best known sailing events. Taking place August 14th-22nd, there will also be many on-land events. For example, the carnival procession, firework displays, the Fowey harbour swim, crab-catching competitions, Giant Pasty ceremony and eating competition. As well as live music every night!
Dartmouth Royal Regatta
Dartmouth Royal regatta always takes place during the week that includes the last Friday in August meaning this year it’s taking place August 24th-27th. Organised by The Royal Dart Yacht Club, the 178th race will take place on the River Dart making the Embankment in the town a fan favourite place to watch the event from and enjoy the commentary.
Little Britain Challenge Cup
The Little Britain Challenge Cup includes four races across September 9th-10th, however the schedule may change to suit weather conditions. This race event is the largest industry regatta for the construction and property related business. Since starting in 1988, it has raised over £1.25 million for charity!
Southampton Boat Show
See some of the best boats and marine brands come together at the Southampton Boat Show, which will take place at Mayflower Park, September 10th-19th. The on-water boat show is an annual event and one of the largest in Europe, attracting over 100,000 visitors. It includes premiers from some of the biggest names in the boating industry!
