There is something about when the sea changes from the coast to the ocean, when the only hills in sight are the crests of the waves. Lost are the sounds and smells of land, no birds sing this far out and salt-spray and old diesel replace the smells of the earth.
Sails whack and the masts creek in their dance with the wind. Night-time in the North, brings an iridescent sea filled with phytoplankton flanking the bow as each wave passes and dolphins become usual company during the long stretches of day.
Companionship becomes necessary and those onboard have now become family, long hours, sleep deprivation and entrusting your lives in one-another will do that.
Blue water sailing is a synonym for freedom. Freedom to leave behind the stresses of a land-based life and exist in limbo between the waves and the sky. The freedom to be. Untamed by the usual hours of society, where three-hour watches become the norm and cups of tea are the only punctuation of time.
Luckily, at Clipper Marine we always have a handful of category A boats. Category A boats are defined as ‘suitable for seas of up to 23 feet (7 meters) significant wave height and winds of Beaufort Force 9 (41-47 knots) or less, but excluding abnormal conditions such as hurricanes’.
Take the first step towards living your ocean-going dream and talk to us about our category A boats.
NB: This is an opinion piece and all owners are recommended to undertake sufficient training and safety precautions when using any boat.
